How exactly does Invisalign work?

There are so many options to choose from when it comes to tooth straightening treatments, but one that stands out is Invisalign Weybridge. It is a simple yet effective treatment that gently moves your teeth with the use of clear, plastic aligners. These aligners are custom-made for your teeth, so that they straighten them efficiently.

This treatment can take anywhere from 6-18 months to complete, depending on a few factors such as the severity of your case. For example, if your teeth are more severely misaligned, the process will take longer, but if you only have mild misalignment, it can be 6 months, sometimes even less!

What is an aligner?

The plastic aligners used during the process are made out of a clear plastic, making them lightweight and comfortable. They are also custom-made to your teeth, using the scans that are taken in your consultation. You will receive multiple aligners throughout the treatment, each one being different to straighten your smile over a certain period of time.

What will happen?

Consultation

If you are interested in getting this treatment, then the first step you will take is having a consultation with your dentist. This will firstly involve a discussion in length about the process, which is a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. It is also a good time for your dentist to give you all of the important information needed.

After this, your dentist will then examine your teeth and take scans such as x-rays. This is vital as your dentist can make sure that you are eligible for the treatment. The scans taken in the consultation will also be the ones used to create your aligners if you decide to go ahead with the treatment. More and more dental practices are introducing 3D technology to their invisalign  treatments, as this can give a more realistic view of your teeth and can simulate what they could look like at the end of the treatment.

If you decide you want to go ahead after your consultation, your dentist will send off your scans so that your custom aligners can be created. This usually takes around 2-3 weeks, and once you receive your first set of aligners, you are ready to go! You will change through the different aligners at home, which is nice and easy due to them being removable and made out of plastic.

You will usually change to a new aligner every 2 weeks, with the next one being a slightly different shape to gently move your teeth over time. During the process, you will only have to have dental appointments every 6-8 weeks so that your dentist can keep up with progress and give you more aligners.

Once you have completed the treatment, it is recommended that you use a retainer. This is important as after you receive any teeth straightening treatments, your teeth can revert back to their old positions, and retainers can stop this from happening.
